The indoor winter garden
'L'Innocence', an antique hyacinth (1873), rests in a frosted glass forcing vase in my home office.
'Lady Derby', another antique (1875), rooted in a reproduction Belgian-style handblown glass forcing vase. These vases were popular from the 1830s into the 1900s.

Thank you. I love indoor winter gardening, and used to force narcissus and tulips, but began to have trouble with refrigeration and stopped. Besides, I had my hands full with paperwhites, amaryllis and hyacinths. I became interested in forcing vases when I saw how beautiful so many of them are, and my interest in antique bulbs led me to Old House Gardens (the nation's top antique bulb supplier), where I also learned more about forcing vases.
