If they're so liberal, where are the women?

Harper's and The Nation are considered two of the most liberal publications in the U.S., if not the world. But look at the male to female writer ratio. Don't even suggest the women writers are not available.

You know, we should not buy those magazines, hit them where it hurts. I mean, why buy magazines if we are not equally represented. Maybe we should set it off as a blog thing, by word of blog.

This is indeed disappointing. I stopped subscribing to both The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly for this very reason and took up with Harpers. I guess I was just scared to look too closely for fear of having to move on again.
Damn this consciousness-raising!
Anyone have any suggestions for better publications?

I know of none. You might check The Progressive; it wasn't on the list. I
am an enthusiastic subscriber to Harper's, but not surprised to learn this.
