White House and Senate versions of detainee bill permit common types of rape and sexual assault

Rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse are mentioned twice in the bill that George W. Bush is trying to rush through Congress, with loopholes to spare. The bill, which deals with the jailing, interrogation and trying of terror suspects, defines rape as "forced or coerced genital or anal penetration." That's it. As the New York Times points out, sex without consent--the type that prisoners undergo frequently--is not mentioned at all.

It saddens me to know the truth about our government, but I'm glad I know, glad we have people who are there to keep the truth alive. I can't think of a time when our military should ever be allowed to torture prisoners. I know, have a family member who was a pow during WWII and while he never talked about his torture, he had the scars on his body that told of the physical damage. Man is man's worst enemy and no war is just, no reason to torture is just, and it frightens me to know that any one group of men can decide that for us, for our country, that it is okay to torture. We are barbarians.
