Photos of hurricane evacuation

We feel very, very fortunate to have a house, despite the damage done by Katrina. I documented our evacuation and have some of the photos available here.

I'm so sorry. It looks like a mess.

Take care --

It looks and sounds chaotic. You're made of good stuff, Diane, at this point in my life I don't know if I could handle re-building. I wish you well.

Bob, there's no re-building to do. We were very lucky. We just had trees fall, a smashed roof in one little part, and a ripped gutter. Absolutely nothing, compared with what others had.

Judging from the photos, there's some re-building to do, even if it's only cosmetic. More importantly, there's re-building to do within your community and that may be as difficult as any personal efforts. But, I know you're no quitter. Good luck!

Well, you're right about that, of course. The yard is the worst part; enough has been cleared that it looks pretty different in some spots.

Our parish was the first to get back on its feet, despite damage from both wind and flooding. But it's New Orleans that is such a disaster, and that affects us all, psychologically and economically.

Beautiful pictures! I have got to visit Bunkie now, when I go home in December. I had no idea there was so much, uh, culture there!

Don't go out of your way, Kathy. I guarantee you won't be deprived, culturally or otherwise, if you skip Bunkie.
