Sexism and sports

There are two excellent posts at Overly Analytical about sexism and sports. One reminds us that after all the protest about the Augusta Golf Club, nothing has changed. The other is about the tendency of some female sportscasters to trade their professionalism for a trip to Bimboland.

Unfortunately, few of those women seem to realize they've entered Bimboland until it's too late. Perhaps it's because they become seduced by the sign over the village gate proclaiming it to be The Land of the Seven Figure Salary.

Yes, sexism is involved, certainly, but I wonder how many would be enticed by $35K/year and sack lunch perks? Everyone has a price, it would seem.

Right you are, only there are several women in sportscasting who haven't succombed to that. As a commenter on the original post says, Fox, of all networks, has a sportscaster who isn't there as a sex object. And if you can do that on Fox, you can probably do it anywhere.
