National Guard not able to play usual role in hurricane crisis

Normally, the Louisiana National Guard would be out in full force to handle the devastation of a major hurricane, but that is not possible with Katrina because much of the Guard's equipment is in Iraq.

Diane,
Glad to hear that you all made it to safe quarters and that the cats have adjusted well!

I have watched the news for a reference to this, not finding it anywhere. There's no discussion that I've seen either about poverty, race, or public health. I swear I hate our news media.

Hope you get home safely and soon!

If you go to NOLA.com, you can get a lot of detailed information about what is happening in Louisiana. The state handles crises extremely well--it's everyday life we don't know how to handle.

I've already gotten public health information about my parish, though I don't know how much of it will apply to us.

Velma has adjusted better than Roxie (we thought it would be the other way around), but things seem to be getting better.
