Well, half of the population is in the bottom half of the IQ range, so that accounts for most of them right there. The rest may be accounted for by people who don't buy it but pretend they do because they think they should, people who are too lazy to question the teachings of childhood, and people who claim these beliefs simply out of a perverse desire to support the Republican party. It isn't really that surprising, but then I live in Kansas.
This is because of the decades of dumbing down of the American people. They walk around like zombies, brainwashed by TV, video games, porn and billboards, stuffing themselves senseless to fill a void they don't understand.
A working, learning person is a happy person. How many people in this country revel in learning and working? Not many. The whole American Dream has changed from marriage and a house and kids (which I always thought was gross but at least realistic to those who couldn't attain more) to worse: Being a beer-swilling fatass expecting a supermodel to land on your lap if you're a man; starving yourself to desired thinness and getting a boob job so you'll attract a rich dude if you're a woman.
Bitter? Yep. More and more every day. It's difficult to strive to increase my intellect on a daily basis, only to find it makes me even more aware of how grotesque and idiotic our populace is becoming.
I'm in the same mood you're in. Tonight I was watching Larry King-- only because Bill Maher was on--and when Maher labelled something a logical fallacy, King interrupted him because he didn't know what a logical fallacy was.
Knowing and understanding the logical fallacies and other essentials of critical thinking should be required of anyone who wishes to graduate from high school. But if taught kids critical thinking skills, they would grow up and realize they were being lied to, cheated on, and murdered by their government and by large corporations.
