Here is my letter to the editor:

David Johnston and Richard W. Stevenson's story on Rove's phone call with Novak includes the phrase, "...the name of the C.I.A. officer, who was referred to by her maiden name, Valerie Plame..."

Let me remind you that Valerie Plame isn't her maiden name--it's her name. Do you really think there are any Times readers who don't realize that there are plenty of women who do not use their husbands' names? If you really think this still needs explaining, could you at least say "family name" or something that doesn't reek of sexism?

Thank you for writing that letter, DED. Maybe the Times would like to join us in the 21st century. The least they could do is to update their centuries old style manual, for $#@*& sake!
