49ers make humorless, offensive "training" video

Reasonable people can have a debate over what is tasteless. A joke re-told without its context can be offensive. A comedy sketch viewed by someone without a sense of irony can be offensive. But sometimes something is offensive no matter how you twist it, usually because it is not funny under any circumstances or within any context.

A training video made by the San Francisco 49ers is such a thing. The video was ostensibly made to help the players deal with the news media and to show them that bad behavior can make news (they need a training video to figure that out?). The video, however, is shocking in its content, which makes fun of Asians and California tax-payers, objectifies women, and even includes soft lesbian pornography. And--lest some jump on the video's critics for being humorless--it should be pointed out that it does not contain one funny moment. The "jokes" are juvenile and stupid.

The 49ers' management has apologized for the video, but what the hell were they thinking?
