Red hatters demand political respect because...I don't know why

Anyone who reads this blog knows that the Red Hat Society gets on my nerves. Today, I was behind an SUV with a God Bless America billboard on the back. In the other corner was a bumper sticker that said Red Hatters Matter--We Vote.

What in heaven's name is that supposed to mean? That politicians better hurry up and produce platforms and agendas to promote bad clothing and self-conscious identity issues among middle-aged women?

As much as it pains me, I re-visited the Red Hat Society website to see if there were any issues that might make bloc voting important. Nowhere was there mention of the image of middle-aged women in the media and in advertising, of American gynecologists' ignorance of perimenopausal and menopausal issues, of the flawed studies done of women's hormones, or of proposed changes in Social Security.

I also checked out Red Hat Society Lifestyle (former Red Hat Matters) to see what issues the Red Hat women are writing about. They are writing about fun events, fashion, food, spa treatment, and savvy travel.

I suppose the bumper sticker was just a way of saying that women over 50 vote. However, I think even the most ignorant politician knows this, since adults over 50 deliver the highest voter turnout in America.

Or maybe it's just a way of saying "Hey, we're not all bad poems and stupid hats and weekend getaways. Take us seriously."

I'll have to think about that.
