It is indeed nice to be able to grow amaryllis, gingers, and other sub-tropical and tropical plants, but the trade-off is that tulips, bearded iris, and dahlias won't return here (along with many others), and only a few narcissus will ('Campernelle' does well in my garden but I forgot to photograph them in March). Also, I have a horrible micro-climate, so my garden is tougher to grow things in than many gardens around me.
